What was your first job?
My first full-time job was working during the summers at a limestone quarry in southern Indiana shoveling rock, cleaning conveyor belts, driving trucks, and loading dynamite.

Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose. Both the book and the HBO miniseries impacted me as I found the leadership, camaraderie, devotion, loyalty, and sacrifice of these World War II heroes to be very inspiring.
What was your childhood ambition?
To play college and professional basketball, and yet my lack of height should have been a clue that this was a misguided dream!
What’s something God’s been teaching you lately you didn’t know before?
The importance of solitude and silence which are both difficult for me since I like to be around people and I like to talk.

It was my privilege to be in the initial meetings that led to the conception and eventual birth of Southwest.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Most people would be surprised to know that I was a drummer in my high school’s concert, marching, and jazz band. They thought I had talent until they realized that I didn’t have any rhythm!
